In its new exhibition, opening on March 20, 2026, Haus Kiefer will be showing watercolors and books by Anselm Kiefer created between 1969 and 2017.

Kiefer’s favorite themes, such as mythology, history, landscape, alchemy and literature, are explored in his small-format watercolors with their vibrant colors. The speed and lightness required for this technique – which makes any corrections virtually impossible – form an unexpected contrast to the monumental, multi-layered works generally associated with Kiefer’s oeuvre.

The exhibition is complemented by artist’s books, for which Kiefer also used the watercolor technique. Books make up more than half of his total oeuvre; they are unique pieces that the artist creates using a wide range of techniques.
